On my morning walk today, I found myself reflecting on a line from Toni Morrison’s novel Beloved: “Anything dead coming back to life hurts.” As the duress of the last few months finally gives way to good news (I’m moving into a new apartment tomorrow! I’ll have an office and art studio!), I want to honor the strain that has made this transformation possible.
The title of today’s newsletter comes from a letter Nichiren Daishonin wrote to a disciple in May 1275. That letter was a real source of comfort to me and my mother when I was growing up.
