I think Isaac is right. It’s a perilous time, and it’s been a worrisome week.
That said, whenever I’ve needed some encouragement lately, I’ve paused for a beat to think about the thousands of students at almost a hundred schools in Virginia who organized and participated in a district-wide walkout in support of their transgender classmates.
Young people are being assailed from every angle, especially queer young people. Thinking of these students protesting in solidarity has helped me stay steady. If they can do it, I can do it.
What (or who) has helped you keep your head up lately?
The teens in Texas who appear at school board meetings to tell board members that representation is needed on library shelves. They give me hope and they move me to tears. I am honored to know them.
So basic but my dogs, all dogs, everyone's dogs! I was just out visiting my mom after some medical stuff and her 1 year old dog was the savior of all my days. And now I'm back with my two pups and it's just impossible to stay in a dark place with their light in the world.
ancestors and trees YES. helps so much to ask for aid from the ones who have come before. I love this post, such a beautiful reminder of what is possible, and also of the changing tide. It's a messy time - wheels are falling off current systems and that sh*t is careening! I have pretty much no answers about any of it. HARD TIMES to live through.
Currently listening to Dua Lipa with the volume up high. Reminding myself that Mercury Retrograde ends soon. I know our problems aren't coming from the stars, but I'm ready for a new season to arrive.
Honestly, Vibe Check. Hearing the three of you grapple with complex things that don't have a solution helps me feel less useless in the face of catastrophic events. In addition, I need levity in my life in the form of petty drama. I am also a big Chris Pine fan!
Getting reacquainted with my creative side. I’ve put my writing to the side since I got a new job, but I’m carving out more time to return to it. Also, just hanging with my friends on Discord

Oh I agree. Their loving obliviousness really helps.
Loving kindness toward myself, remembering my ancestors, asking for hugs, hugging trees, loving tf out of my friends 💜

Club Future Nostalgia is one of the best remix albums I’ve listened to in a while!
Poetry and poets. Including you and yours. And the Tell It Slant conference at the Emily Dickinson Museum, just now over.

The women protesting the hijab in Iran—their bravery and perseverance is beyond inspiring.
