I already retweeted your tweet about this (librarian here). It's not a theory. It's a fact. The right are trying to destroy public education in its entirety (taking all our tax money for their own kooky christian schools). Part of public education is the public library system. That has to go, too. It's very scary.
Agreed 💯 Removing public services like libraries, schools, and laws that protect minors in the workforce are all part of a larger effort to further entrench white supremacy and close all the doors that women and minorities have spent the last century ripping open.
This has really got me thinking about how their movement benefits from the constant push to silo everyone further into online ideological echo chambers. Thank you for sharing your theory with us!
Disinvestment & privatization of public spaces/services has been the name of the game, it’s been happening with public housing for the last 30 years and it’s no surprise we see the rise of these so-called public-private partnerships being framed as “useful.” It’s been the palpable experience for anyone who has lived in a gentrified city.
I am a lifetime member of my local library's Friends of the Library group. I attend almost all of the meetings. I also regularly check my city council's and school board's agendas and minutes to see if there are any fascist shenanigans ongoing. I feel lucky to say that right now, there is no trouble brewing in my community that I can decipher. However, I am pretty sure your conspiracy theory is right on the money.
Preach Sister Sayeed!!! Amen! DeSantis proposed doing away with four branches of government including the Department of Education - and doing away with the Department of Education is high up on the list of the fascists agenda because knowledge is power and they want to keep people in the dark.
On another note, I created a tribute to Cesar and didn’t know where to post it for you. I finally ended up DMing you on twitter (I will never call it X) even though you aren’t active there.
and I hope you’re having a fabulous time in Buenos Aires- I kept going around singing Evita’s “I want to BE a part of of B.A.! Buenos Aires! Big Apple! 🍎 (three rapid 👏 claps 👏 👏)
Yes, absolutely!! Like many others here, I too am a librarian, and you are exactly right. Libraries are essential community spaces, where knowledge and learning are free. Stay safe everybody. <3

Yep. And the public school fight has been decades in the making. Ever since desegregation.

Just read a story about a town a couple hrs south of where I live, could be the 1st library in the country shut down because of book bans in November.

This is correct. Authoritarian regimes benefit from a weak, poor, uneducated populace.

Singing to the choir! I agree 💯!

I support your conspiracy theory 100 percent. And I’m loving you in Buenos Aires! Please keep posting those gorgeous photos!
Grateful for you.
