YES. Sethe did the right thing. I’ve always appreciated how she released her child. Nuance of using her limited autonomy to free her child considering the horror of life for an enslaved Black woman is poignant. The brutality, rape, experimentation, murder of Black women during slavery with absolutely no relief in sight makes for a decision like that. WHEW, indeed.
