The link to "Before Stonewall" prompts me to share that yesterday I finished Last Call, by Elon Green, which discusses the murder of 4 gay men in the early 80's in NY...and goes into quite a bit about the piano bars of the time - it was a side of Queer NY circa early 80's I hadn't previously heard explained in this way!

This makes me want to write! (Love writing but struggle with motivation, so every time I feel the pure urge to write and it’s louder than any of the reasons not to is a win even if I don’t follow through. But maybe I will!)

I'm just now hearing this voice note, though I had seen that Annie Dillard quote on Twitter (maybe because you liked it or retweeted it!). I love this idea, this permission she gives. Because I certainly have kept things to myself for these reasons. Thanks for sharing!
