Thank you for this. For such a short piece, I am struck by how many lines made me stop and think -- savor, really. But, this one: “Another glance and you understood that “more” could look like anything as long as it was what you wanted for yourself.” Sublime.

He was a special, special human being. He probably had to be five time better qualified at his job to get and to hold it that any white competitor. That was how Conde Nast was.
