A while back, my friend Aminatou Sow dubbed me “the Rihanna of newsletters.” Hehe. What an honor! Well, thank you for your patience, friends. I started “The Intelligence of Honey” in the Fall of 2019, way, way, waaaaaay on the other side of so many seismic shifts in our lives. I’m proud of that work and the conversations it enabled us to have about joy and what it can teach us. Joy will always be a part of my creative life — my name means “happy and fortunate” — but I knew I needed to catch my breath and process what the hell was happening to us in order to be able to return to you with intention and clarity.
I’m still very much a werk-in-progress, and always will be one, but I’ve realized that the step-by-step, one poem, one question, one idea at a time, way of living is the joy I want to share and explore with all of you.
The last year, in addition to being harrowing, has been one of the most creatively productive years of my life. I want to share the fruit of that journey with you, so I’m starting a new newsletter that will reflect my creative process in real-time and invite you into it.
I’m calling it Werk-In-Progress, and it will feature new poems and essays from me, as well as discussions and writing prompts designed to power your own creative process. I’ll also publish poems from writers I admire and interview them about how their work came together. You can expect several posts a week and it all starts tomorrow with a poem I cannot WAIT to share with y’all.
And, as a special thank you for supporting my work all this time, here’s a little deal just for y’all. Thank you for the love.
