Almost five years ago, I made some simple collages using magazine clippings, orange electrical tape and some shiny silver packaging material. The three pieces became a part of my living room’s vibe. They’ve traveled with me through several apartments, states and apocalypse now.
Recently, one of the collages fell off the bookcase. Without looking, I picked it up and sat it back on the shelf upside down. I didn’t notice what I’d done until later in the day. And then, I got up and turned the other two collages upside down too. After living with these three pieces for years, a simple change in perspective dramatically changed how I saw them. That shift inspired me to begin revising the collages and I thought I’d show you the process for the first piece.

I love this! I’ve been thinking a lot about revision since hearing Tressie McMillan Cottom talk with Kiese Laymon last year (when she was guest hosting Ezra Klein’s podcast).
Love how your art is both sacred and not enough to update. Moving!
This is gorgeous! I've recently been experimenting with collage. Thank you for sharing your process and your work!
